Renewal grants are due to be offered to 149 colleges across the country by the government, a member of the coalition has revealed.
A sum of £50 million is due to be provided to recipients of the funding, with the money set to help schools renovate and construct buildings.
It is important that colleges offer attractive facilities to students, according to Vince Cable, the nation's business secretary.
He stated: "Improving people's skills is a key part of this government's plans to secure economic growth, and colleges are right in the frontline of this challenge."
The standard sum of money offered to colleges under the scheme will be £225,000, it has been confirmed, with recipients aiming to at least match the contributions that are being made by the government.
Government science funding was also discussed by Mr Cable earlier in the week, during a speech he gave at Queen Mary, University of London.
