CBI proposes creation of new 'school federations'

More school federations could be created by the coalition government, according to the CBI, in a bid to improve the country's education system.

The country's education system could be developed through the creation of new school federations in the UK, according to one business group.
Failing schools could be supported through the introduction of more federations, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) has suggested.
Best practice is one thing that could be promoted through the launch of these bodies, the organisation believes, with groups of schools or individual businesses able to run them.
The coalition's ideas for education reform could go even further, the director of education and skills at the CBI, Susan Anderson, commented.
She stated that ministers could "develop federations that use existing strong leadership and robust quality assurance systems to drive up standards across 'chains' of schools".
However, academy reforms put forward by ministers in recent weeks have been given the backing of the CBI in its Fulfilling Potential: The Business Role in Education report.
Schools that are interested in the government's academies scheme were listed by the Department for Education earlier in the summer.
