CMI: Many employers opting for flexible working

Date posted: 21 Oct 2009

Flexible working has recently appeared on the agenda of many companies to help them cope with the impact of the economic downturn, the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) believes.

Earlier this month, new guidance was published by the Equality and Human Rights Commission, outlining how flexible working practices could offer potential business benefits to company managers.

The organisation suggested that flexible working could help businesses to retain their staff for longer and lower the number of cases of absenteeism.

It also claimed that flexible working could allow businesses to use their office space in a more efficient manner.

CMI chief executive Ruth Spellman now believes the recession may have caused some employers to introduce flexible working arrangements.

She commented: "The current job market is very tough, but it would seem that the recession has ushered in the widespread use of flexible working for all employees as employers resort to innovative methods to keep hold of their staff."ADNFCR-2386-ID-19419755-ADNFCR
