Ecological network review to consider climate change issues

Date posted: 10 Dec 2009

The country''s ecological network is to be assessed through a new review, whose panel will include members from organisations like the RSPB and the Wildlife Trusts.

It is hoped that the review process will examine how well wildlife areas will be able to cope with the effects of climate change in the coming years.

Professor Sir John Lawton has this week been confirmed as the chair of the review.

Hilary Benn, the government''s environment minister, has suggested that the review should prove to be an illuminating one.

He commented: "This review will see whether further action is needed to protect and enhance our range of wildlife sites so that nature can continue to thrive in a changing climate."

The review is scheduled to reveal its findings by June of next year.

Commenting in his recent Darwin Lecture, Mr Benn outlined the need for countries across the world to ensure that biodiversity is preserved.ADNFCR-2386-ID-19503602-ADNFCR
