Govt ''may be unclear'' on landlord register benefits

The government has not yet clarified how its proposals to introduce a national register of landlords would actually benefit the rental sector, it has been suggested.
David Salusbury, chairman of the National Landlords Association (NLA), believes that ministers do not appear to be clear on how such a register would be useful.
He said: "It is quite clear that even the government do not know how a landlord register will find those rogue landlords who work so hard at keeping themselves under the radar."

According to the NLA, a number of questions surrounding the government''s register proposals were put to the minister Ian Austin during the organisation''s recent national conference.
Mr Salusbury added that the government should ensure its attempts to tackle rogue landlords do not cause potential problems for the wider landlord community.
The NLA recently urged landlords to draw up inventories of the items found within their properties to avoid financial loss.
