Govt ''not in touch'' with private landlords
Date posted: 03 Dec 2009
Ministers may be failing to get to grips with the UK''s private rental sector, according to one expert.
Alan Ward, chairman of the Residential Landlords Association, believes that the government appears to be unaware of the reasons why people opt to invest in private property.
He suggested that this was in evidence when ministers "decided to treat holiday lets as unearned income".
Instead, Mr Ward would like to see "the whole private rented sector ... treated as earned income".

Meanwhile, the expert added that current legislation should be amended to allow people to allocate a residential property that they let to their self invested personal pension.
His comments follow suggestions made earlier this week by the Association of Residential Letting Agents about the UK''s private rental sector.
The organisation would like to see landlords given more help when it comes to improving the quality of their properties.
