Govt scheme aiming to tackle social housing fraud

People who illegally sub-let their council homes to others are to be targeted as part of a new government scheme.
In a bid to improve the social housing system, the country''s housing minister John Healey has announced that those who commit fraud will see their properties reallocated.
As many as 147 local councils are now said to be taking part in the initiative.
Commenting on the scheme, Mr Healey said that the fraud crackdown could provide people on housing waiting lists with up to 10,000 properties.

Commenting on the scheme, Mr Healey said that the fraud crackdown could provide people on housing waiting lists with up to 10,000 properties.
He added: "I want people to feel the system for housing families who need homes is fairer and that''s why I''m launching this national crackdown on tenancy fraud."
Meanwhile, Mr Healey has also recently revealed that funding of £290 million was pledged towards the construction of affordable housing in the month of October.
The minister believes that this may lead to the creation of nearly 5,500 new properties.
