Govt 'should talk through student visa changes with universities'

Universities should be consulted before the government goes ahead with any student visa changes, according to an expert.

Ministers should take the time to talk to universities about any plans they have to amend student visas in the future, it is believed.
According to the Universities UK chief executive Nicola Dandridge, changes to the present system have to be feasible to implement.
She stated: "Any changes to the system that may hinder the mobility of international students to universities will damage the success of UK universities at a time when our international activities are increasingly important."
Meanwhile, the expert went on to point out the benefits that university students from overseas nations offer to the UK in an academic sense as well as a financial one.
Ms Dandridge was speaking in relation to recent suggestions made by Damien Green, the government's minister for immigration, concerning the country's population of foreign students.
According to the politician, the country is witnessing a growth in its foreign student numbers.
