Various organisations operating in the country's third sector might soon be given the chance to take part in a major survey, which the coalition government has confirmed the launch of.

Voluntary groups are among those who will be able to express their opinions through the National Survey of Charities and Social Enterprises, with 110,000 bodies potentially getting involved.

The government's civil society minister Nick Hurd has highlighted the benefits of taking part in the survey.

He stated: "This survey represents a real opportunity for organisations to put their views across on issues that affect them, communicate with local authorities and their partners, and inform and influence national and local policy."

The survey will be the second released in the UK, after charities were previously offered the chance to make their opinions known to the government two years ago.

In a related development, voluntary sector red tape is to be addressed through the development of a new task force, the government revealed last month, with Lord Hodgson of Astley Abbotts heading up the team.
