London''s food supply could be at risk unless steps are taken to help local farmers modernise their practices, it has been suggested.
The London Assembly''s planning and housing committee recently heard that green belt land may need to be used more for agricultural purposes in the future to boost the capital''s food security.
Meanwhile, the committee was also told that the city''s supply of local produce may be threatened because things like housing developments are encroaching on areas of potential farmland.

Committee chair Jenny Jones commented that London''s food security is a potential cause for concern.
She said: "The opportunities for commercial food growing are available but existing and new potential food growing spaces need to be mapped out by local planning authorities and given more priority."
Meanwhile, London was recently named as the top destination for business in the latest European Cities Monitor published earlier this month by Cushman and Wakefield.
