Nationwide: Q4 saw 1.6% house price increase

The fourth quarter of this year witnessed a 1.6 per cent improvement in the UK''s house prices, new figures published by Nationwide have revealed.
According to the firm, the most recent three-month period saw a £162,116 average house price.
This is said to compare with the price of £160,159 that was recorded during 2009''s third quarter.
Chief economist at Nationwide Martin Gahbauer highlighted the performance of house prices within the Greater London region.

Chief economist at Nationwide Martin Gahbauer highlighted the performance of house prices within the Greater London region.
He said: "Greater London was the best performing region in the quarter; prices rose by a seasonally adjusted 3.4 per cent.
"This increase pushed the annual rate of change up from -1.9 per cent to seven per cent."
Meanwhile, earlier in the month, Nationwide released the findings of its latest Consumer Confidence Index.
The index is said to have remained at 73 points during the month of November, which was the second month in a row that it failed to change.
