One of the UK voluntary sector's key players is set to lend his expertise to the EU's European Economic & Social Committee (EcoSoc), it has been revealed.
The National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) has confirmed that its chief executive, Sir Stuart Etherington, will be joining the European body.
Sir Stuart said he is pleased to have taken on the new role within EcoSoc.
He commented: "My work with EcoSoc will build on the progress NCVO has already made in forging close links with European partner organisations through membership and development of ENNA (the European Network of National Civil Society Associations)."
The expert went on to suggest that he would like to help in the development of an EU which is more transparent in nature.
Last month, Sir Stuart also called for voluntary sector cutbacks to be properly planned. Cuts should only be made if they are actually necessary, he continued.
