Date posted: 27 Aug 2009
A number of charities and voluntary organisations are to receive new funding from the Cabinet Office to help them deliver frontline community services in the economic downturn.
In total, 558 bodies are expected to gain new grants from the Targeted Support Fund, worth around £15 million.
It is hoped the funding packages, which range from £10,000 to £40,000, will offer support to organisations specialising in recession-focused sectors like employment and health and wellbeing.

Minister for the third sector Angela Smith said it is important charities are given help in the current financial climate.
She continued: "We will continue to offer unprecedented support to the sector through the major initiatives launched in the action plan Real Help for Communities."
The plan aims to pledge £42.5 million in funding towards the voluntary sector during the recession, creating things like new volunteering opportunities for unemployed people.
