The Build UP web portal is intended to be used as a tool to help professionals and organisations operating in the industry reduce energy use.

Content will be regularly updated with new good practice guidance and information about new regulations and legislation.

Energy commissioner Andris Piebalgs described the portal as an "extremely useful tool to improve building performance".

He said: "The Build UP web portal will enable anyone from home owners to builders to look up and share best practice and information.

"At the same time, it will inform and update the market about the legislative framework."

In 2002, the EU adopted the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, providing member states with an integrated approach to cutting energy use in the buildings sector.
