NLA welcomes letting renewal fees ruling

A major landlord organisation has welcomed a High Court ruling that may entail changes to the renewal fees that are paid to letting agents.

The National Landlords Association (NLA) suggests that landlords in the south-east and London may have to pay renewal commissions to their letting agents if they currently want to renew their tenancy agreements for a further 12 months.

However, the body states that a recent High Court ruling could create more transparency concerning renewal fees in the future.

The High Court recently ruled against the estate agency Foxtons after small print terms in its letting agreements meant it could charge landlords commission fees.

John Socha, vice chairman of the NLA, commented that the organisation has been campaigning on the issue for nearly two years.

He said: "This sends a direct message to letting agents that this lack of transparency must stop. Contracts must be clear with provisions which are upfront and plain and intelligible."ADNFCR-2386-ID-19266526-ADNFCR
