The government''s Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has announced the launch of a new review into the competitiveness of the UK''s postgraduate education sector.
Led by Professor Adrian Smith, the review will also be guided by advisors including Dr David Docherty, the Council for Industry and Higher Education''s chief executive, and Professor Keith Burnett, who holds the position of vice chancellor at Sheffield University.
It is hoped that the project will investigate what benefits the postgraduate sector offers to the country''s economy and how competitive universities are in attracting talented students from around the world.
Higher education minister David Lammy believes the review could offer some important findings.
He said: "In order to remain world-leading and to reap the greatest benefits of postgraduate study, we must examine and respond to the concerns of universities, the business community and students themselves."
Meanwhile, the government recently announced it is to collaborate with the Federation of Small Businesses to offer more work experience opportunities to the country''s university leavers.
