A number of commercial sector organisations are beginning to express an interest in PV solar panel technology, an expert from the REA believes.

Interest in photovoltaic (PV) solar panel technology is beginning to pick up among organisations operating in the UK's commercial sector, an expert has noted.

According to the Renewable Energy Association's (REA) technical director Stuart Pocock, interest is being generated within various areas of the commercial market.

He stated: "We're starting to see some good commercial schemes coming through - we'll hopefully see some schools, hospitals and other types of schemes start to come through."

However, Mr Pocock went on to point out that it is still "early days" for the commercial adoption of PV renewable energy devices.

The expert added that he is hoping to see the government's domestic feed-in tariff scheme grow in a sustainable fashion.

His remarks follow the publication of figures from energy regulator Ofgem.

Last month saw 2,257 solar panels fitted in people's homes thanks to the feed-in tariff scheme, according to the organisation's latest statistics.

Adam Bradley, a partner at Taylor Vinters says "We are seeing an increasing number of agribusiness clients look at these projects, where there are real opportunities to create additional income streams and to produce cheaper electricity by using existing assets.  In addition to greenfield and brownfield sites, large packhouses and grain stores which have the right aspect are ideally suited to solar/PV roof installations, whether stand-alone or as a joint venture with, for example, companies which can provide the technology and source state-of-the-art panels."
