Recession ''has delayed divorce settlements of many''

Last year's financial climate caused a number of people to postpone their divorce settlement plans, a new poll of solicitors suggests.

The results of the survey, which have been published by Unbiased.co.uk, reveal that 50 per cent of respondents saw a reduction in the number of people seeking divorce guidance from them in the 12-month period because of financial factors.

Meanwhile, 48 per cent of those responding to the website's survey also claim to have witnessed financial settlement postponements among their clients.

Unbiased.co.uk''s chief executive Karen Barrett has noted that the turn of a new year often signals a rise in divorce proceedings.

She said: "While the credit crunch has led to many people to put off major financial decisions, seeking professional advice as soon as possible is always the best step to get your financial affairs in order."

Meanwhile, during the autumn of last year, Unbiased.co.uk was also keen to highlight the need for people to update their wills if they have previously put off doing so.ADNFCR-2386-ID-19537782-ADNFCR
