Retirement age flexibility ''would be welcome''

More flexibility surrounding the UK''s default retirement age might be welcomed by a number of older members of staff, according to the director of MGM Advantage.

Craig Fazzini-Jones of the retirement income firm feels that there a number of factors which motivate people to remain in a job.

"People want to work beyond the retirement age for all sorts of reasons - some because they have to financially, and some because they simply don''t want to stop working."

He was speaking in response to the country''s women and equality minister Harriet Harman, who has recently suggested in a Daily Mail article that the default retirement age might need to be reviewed.

The default retirement age currently stands at 65.

Meanwhile, Mr Fazzini-Jones''s company has recently outlined research which has found that the recession has caused around 33 per cent of workers over the age of 55 to stay in employment, instead of giving up work to retire.ADNFCR-2386-ID-19555390-ADNFCR
