The government''s forthcoming review of the Rural Payments Agency (RLA) has been too long in coming but could offer good news to farmers, according to the Country Land and Business Association (CLA).
Ministers at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs recently announced that the RLA will be reviewed to ensure it is ready for any changes made to the Common Agricultural Policy in 2013.
Henry Aubrey-Fletcher, president of the CLA, now believes that the review of the RLA should assess a wide range of issues.

He said: "The review must also examine the relationships between the RPA and other organisations such as Natural England, the Environment Agency and local authorities in terms of how RPA decisions can affect work in other areas such as agri-environment schemes."
Mr Aubrey-Fletcher further suggested that the agency has improved since Tony Cooper took over as its chief executive but still has a number of improvements to make in the future.
