Sue Fieldman, regional editor of the Good Schools Guide, now believes that the UK education system is highly likely to move more towards online assessment methods in the coming years.

However, she commented: "Whether it is a good thing or not is another matter - because when one does all this online assessment and online marking, the personal element does tend to deteriorate a little."

Ms Fieldman further suggested that such assessment plans, alluded to by Cambridge Assessment, will require thorough trials to make sure they are flexible and functional.
