Organisations operating within the sheep industry should look to collaborate more in a bid to try and overcome future challenges, a union suggests.

Alistair Mackintosh, livestock board chairman for the National Farmers'' Union (NFU), believes that those working in the sector could improve their prospects by cooperating with others.

Following the recent International Sheepmeat Forum, he said: "The forum discussed ways the sector could work together to deal with international challenges facing the sheep industry, such as stimulating consumption and reversing the decline in the European production base."

Mr Mackintosh added that the industry should try to work together to focus on concerns relating to things like climate change and "unnecessary" regulation.

Meanwhile, the NFU recently called on supermarkets to lend their support to an independent grocery ombudsman, to create a more transparent supply chain.

The union also believes supermarkets should do more to improve their commitments to issues concerning the environment.ADNFCR-2386-ID-19408748-ADNFCR
