Tackling betting corruption ''should be a priority''

Betting corruption in the UK needs to be tackled in an effective manner, a member of the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) has suggested.
According to the organisation''s chief executive Nic Coward, the threats posed by illegal betting practices should not be taken lightly.
A new Sports Betting Intelligence Unit might be created in order to deal with the problems that can arise from betting corruption, a recent report from the Sports Betting Integrity Panel has concluded.

Following this suggestion, Mr Coward has noted that the BHA is more than happy to collaborate with other organisations in order to deal with betting crime.
"Racing had to develop sophisticated and comprehensive intelligence and investigation operations to try to combat the threat, and the sport has what many see as the world-leading experience and systems," he commented.
The sports betting panel is currently led by Rick Parry, who used to act as the chief executive of Liverpool FC.
