Staff sabbaticals are proving beneficial to a number of firms based in the UK, according to a Keep Britain Working expert.

UK employers might benefit if their staff are provided with the opportunity to take a sabbatical, an expert has noted.

According to the Keep Britain Working campaign's researcher Katy Nicholson, sabbaticals can help to refresh members of a firm's workforce.

Citing a recent example, Ms Nicholson has pointed out that some people were given the option of taking some time away from work during the economic downturn.

She stated: "Now that growth has returned, those far-sighted employers are reaping their reward, as they still have the skilled people they need to challenge the competition and take their business forwards."

New ideas can also be generated as a result of sabbaticals, the expert went on to say.

Ms Nicholson made her remarks following the publication of recent Santander research.

Career or education breaks are currently being considered by as many as four million of the country's adults, the firm's figures have suggested.
