Hill farmers are to be provided with financial support in light of their conservation efforts, following the introduction of the new Uplands Entry Level Stewardship (ELS) scheme.
Replacing the Hill Farm Allowance, those operating in areas like the Lake District are expected to benefit from the funding if they are able to demonstrate a commitment to biodiversity and wildlife.
Commenting on the scheme, Huw Irranca-Davies, the government''s environment minister, noted the iconic nature of many uplands areas.

Commenting on the scheme, Huw Irranca-Davies, the government''s environment minister, noted the iconic nature of many uplands areas.
"The uplands reflect a fundamental aspect of the English countryside - its history, natural beauty and a way of life," he stated.
Mr Irranca-Davies went on to say that those who preserve dry-stone walls may also be eligible to gain access to the money.
The Country Land and Business Association now believes that farmers should take advantages of the Uplands ELS funding if they meet the requirements of the scheme.
