In order to provide concrete figures concerning the threats posed by ragwort, one equine organisation is gearing up to launch a national survey concerning the plant.
According to the British Horse Society's (BHS) website, the organisation is preparing to collaborate with eazitools in a bid to gain data from people that relates to ragwort hotspots.
Horse owners will be encouraged to let the BHS know about any areas where they have sighted ragwort by taking part in an online poll.
The survey will be accessible during BHS Ragwort Awareness Week, which is due to be held later in the month.
Head of welfare at the BHS, Lee Hackett, has highlighted some of the problems that he feels ragwort can cause.
Speaking on the BHS site, he claimed: "Ragwort has been causing horrible deaths to horses and ponies for many years and yet it seems to be becoming more and more widespread in its distribution."
In related BHS news, the body recently announced the launch of its coach of the year contest.
