CBI: Ministers need to make business taxes competitive

Business taxes should be made more competitive by the next government, it has been claimed.

A variety of proposed measures have been put forward by the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), with the organisation suggesting that there are 12 key steps that ministers should consider following May''s general election.

While encouraging politicians to focus on issues such as business taxation, the confederation would additionally like to see ministers cultivate enterprise in the UK.

While encouraging politicians to focus on issues such as business taxation, the confederation would additionally like to see ministers cultivate enterprise in the UK.

Its director-general Richard Lambert feels that the public finances also need to be urgently tackled by the incoming government.

He commented: "Whichever party wins the election will have a lot on its plate, but the number one priority must be to set out a clear and credible plan for restoring the public finances."

This month has also seen the CBI call for reforms to be made to public sector pensions, which it believes are not sustainable in the long term.
