Regulatory red tape relating to the country's farming sector is to be looked into by a new task force.

Set up by the coalition government, the Task Force on Farming Regulation will be led by Richard Macdonald, it has been confirmed, with the group set to assess issues such as unnecessary regulation.

The processing of produce from farms and the horticultural sector are among the areas that the task force will be responsible for, it has been confirmed.

Commenting on the new organisation, the government's food and agriculture minister Jim Paice stated that the coalition is aiming to become "supportive rather than prescriptive".

He added: "We need to target the red tape that ties up our farmers and food businesses and trust in their ability."

The government also recently announced the launch of its Reducing Regulation Committee, which will aim to deal with the subject of business red tape.
