People might find it beneficial to invest in farmland at the present time, an expert has suggested.

Farmland could prove a useful investment option to people in the current financial environment, it has been suggested.

Capital growth might be one factor that is making land a decent investment, according to the Strutt & Parker head of farm and estate sales Mark McAndrew.

He stated: "The reason that everybody thinks that land prices are going to keep going up - and possibly quite significantly - in the future is that there is going to be pressure on land to produce food."

It will be difficult to feed the world's rising population in the coming decades, Mr McAndrew went on to say, which may lead to more demand being placed on farmland.

Commercial farmland demand went up over the course of the last six-month period, research published by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors recently revealed.

The organisation's spokesperson Sue Steer noted that land may be seen as being recession-proof by some investors.
