House prices 'saw yearly rise of 8.5% in April'

On an annual basis, house prices went up by 8.5 per cent in April, according to the Land Registry.

House prices rose by an annual rate of 8.5 per cent in April, new figures have revealed.
According to Land Registry statistics, which relate to England and Wales, the four-week period saw property prices hit £165,596 on an average basis.
The organisation's House Price Index has indicated that London in particular has witnessed a large rise in its house values in the past year.
A price rise of 14.8 per cent was witnessed in the capital, the research has shown.
This is said to compare to the 0.7 per cent improvement seen in the Yorkshire and the Humber region over the last 12-month period.
Meanwhile, the findings of a separate house price review have also recently been published by Halifax.
The company's Seaside Town Review has suggested that English and Welsh seaside properties saw their values go up by an average of 92 per cent between 2001 and last year.
