The UK's major mobile operators have all reduced their text donation charges in recent times, it has been highlighted.

Action has recently been taken by all of the country's mobile operators to lower the charges that apply to charitable text donations, an expert has noted.

The Text Donation Campaign Group's leader, Joe Saxton, suggested that telecommunications firms appear to be doing more to boost the amount of money that charities receive from such donations.

He stated: "VAT on text donations has been waived, special charity short codes have been introduced and all of the mobile phone companies have lowered their charges."

The remarks made by Mr Saxton follow the publication of figures from his campaign group, which highlight the amount of money that charities actually receive from text donors.

According to the statistics, charities currently gain 91 per cent of a £5 donation made by text on average.

The Charities Aid Foundation is one organisation that offers support to the Text Donation Campaign Group.

Last year, the Mobile Data Association confirmed that VAT would be waived on charitable text donations that are sent to a specific short code.
