There are a number of measures that landlords can take if they want to prevent void periods, according to the NLA.

Landlords may be able to address the problems posed by void periods by considering a number of measures, according to one organisation.

The National Landlords' Association (NLA) has suggested that people looking to rent out houses and flats should ensure they market their properties in the right way.

The photos they use to advertise them should be as attractive as possible, the association has noted.

Meanwhile, price is another important factor that landlords need to take into account.

It is important to take a sensible approach when rents are set, it believes.

The NLA's chairman David Salusbury stated that void periods can have negative financial consequences for landlords.

He commented: "As with many issues in the letting of residential property, open and respectful channels of communications between landlords and tenants will pay dividends."

Earlier this month, the NLA was also keen to emphasise the need for landlords to carefully check the backgrounds of any prospective tenants that approach them.
