The RPA might be able to offer farmers a better standard of service with the support of its new leadership, according to one expert from the CLA.

The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) has the potential to offer farmers a better standard of service in the future, one expert has suggested.

William Worsley, president of the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), has given his approval to an independent review which recently addressed the ways in which the RPA currently operates.

He stated: "This damning criticism of the RPA is long overdue and only confirms what farmers and land managers have known for a long time."

However, while noting that his organisation is "horrified" about comments made by the review about the RPA's financial management, Mr Worsley feels that the quality of its services might eventually get better.

The body's new leadership may help to improve its standards, he added.

Value for money is one area that the RPA should look to focus on in the months ahead, the country's agriculture minister Jim Paice stated following the publication of the review.
