Increasing the availability of super-fast broadband in the UK could have wider benefits for the country's rural economies, an expert has claimed.
A Communications Consumer Panel spokesperson has noted that improving access to such services might have a positive impact on various sectors of society.
Small firms are among those that it may offer support to, they added, with super-fast broadband potentially playing "a part in revitalising rural economies".
Super-fast broadband might also have positive implications for the nation's home workers, the spokesperson pointed out.
They went on to say: "The social and economic benefits of super-fast broadband could include, for example, telemedicine and other tools to support assisted living at home for older people."
According to the recent programme for government published by the Conservative and Liberal Democrat coalition, TV license money might be used to support the further development of super-fast broadband in the near future.
