Businesses are being encouraged to think about adopting more flexible working hours during the World Cup.

It might prove beneficial for companies to adopt more flexible working practices during the forthcoming World Cup tournament, according to one union.

The Trades Union Congress (TUC) has suggested that employers should not adopt overly restrictive policies if their workers are keen to watch football during the day.

Instead, the organisation believes that employers might want to think about introducing a flexitime system during the South Africa-based event.

The morale of UK workers may be positively impacted if flexible working practices are introduced during the World Cup, the general secretary of the TUC Brendan Barber believes.

He stated: "Employers who adopt flexible working patterns see the benefits because their production rates go up, they have less absenteeism and a more contented workforce."

The FIFA World Cup is due to begin on June 11th, with England's first game in the tournament set to take place on the following day.
