The reintroduction of empty properties could help to improve the country''s housing supply, according to one expert from the Empty Homes Agency.
David Ireland, the organisation''s chief executive, feels that such a measure might prove to be beneficial over a number of years.
He commented: "I think it is reasonable to look at how those properties can be brought back in to use.
"If they were, then you have quite a significant contribution to housing supply."

However, while the reintroduction of empty homes might go some way towards addressing the country''s housing shortage, Mr Ireland believes that action is still required in other areas.
More homes will still need to be constructed in the future to meet demand, he suggests.
Earlier this month, the Guardian suggested that there are around 450,000 empty UK properties which have not been occupied by people for a period of six months or more.
