Govt ''must continue to focus on social housing''

The government must maintain its focus on social housing in order to meet public demand, it is believed.
There has been a large rise in the number of people looking for social housing in the capital, figures from the National Housing Federation (NHF) recently revealed.
Jim Vine, of the Building and Social Housing Foundation, believes that this trend needs to be met with further investment.

Jim Vine, of the Building and Social Housing Foundation, believes that this trend needs to be met with further investment.
Mr Vine, the organisation''s head of programme for UK housing policy and practice, has also acknowledged some of the additional benefits that can arise from investment in the housing sector.
"Investment in housing also keeps people in work and retains essential skills in the construction industry - both of which are essential in a downturn," he commented.
The period between April of last year and March 2010 may only see around 122,700 new homes built in total, separate NHF figures have revealed
