Further support needs to be offered to the countryside by the UK''s political parties, it is believed.
A variety of proposals have been put forward by the Country Land and Business Association (CLA), which the organisation suggests the next government should look into.
William Worsley, the body''s president, has outlined some of the key issues that politicians might consider addressing.
"The next government must rise to meet the twin challenges of securing both food production and the environmental benefits that land management provide," he commented.
Superfast broadband provisions in rural parts of the country should also be enhanced by the incoming government, Mr Worsley claims, while planning system reforms could additionally prove beneficial.
The CLA Manifesto for the Rural Economy contains a number of recommendations which are designed to improve the condition of the countryside.
Last month, the CLA reacted positively to plans laid out in chancellor Alistair Darling''s financial Budget to invest more money in broadband services.
