Sats examinations should be replaced in the UK, according to one expert, with the creation of a less pressurised system being advocated.
A spokesperson for the ATL commented that many youngsters are currently subjected to a large degree of pressure because of the national tests.
She stated: "In Wales and Scotland, there aren't [Sats] tests and they still get their results without the pressure of the tests."
The expert went on to say that classroom creativity is one thing that may currently be hampered by England's Sats system, as teachers are having to prepare youngsters to pass the tests.
Her remarks follow the publication of the country's official Sats results which were released earlier in the week.
The figures revealed that between 2009 and this year, the expected reading level of 11-year-old pupils fell by two per cent, although more youngsters achieved their expected levels in maths, writing and English.
