57% of workers ''not anticipating 2010 wage rise''

Pay freezes are likely to be on the cards for a large proportion of the country's employees in 2010, with as many as 57 per cent of people anticipating this to be the case.

That is according to uSwitch.com, which has outlined survey results concerning people''s pay expectations in the months ahead.

As many as 26 per cent of those consumers who were questioned in the switching website''s poll suggest that they are spending all of their monthly wage packets, with no cash leftover to save.

Commenting on the firm''s figures, its director of consumer policy Ann Robinson stated: "This will do nothing to improve consumer confidence - a key factor if the economy is to claw its way out of recession."

Higher taxes could also affect the bank balances of the country''s staff in the near future, she added.
