The short term nature of contracts in the voluntary sector is having a negative impact on the health of many of those working for charitable organisations, according to Unite research.

Almost 92 per cent of those queried in a recent survey by the union feel that the not-for-profit sector''s funding structure has not benefited their health, with stress proving to be a problem for some.

The national officer of the organisation''s not-for-profit division Rachael Maskell believes that a greater degree of stability is required in the voluntary sector.

She commented: "The shocking results of our survey show a sector hit by a short-term ''revolving doors'' contract culture which is having a serious adverse affect on employees'' health."

Unite is now due to raise awareness of this issue to MPs later in the month.

The union aims to represent the views of a number of not-for-profit bodies, including the likes of housing associations and charities.
