Governance - not for profit

Growth in what your organisation achieves on the ground must be supported by increased capacity at board and management level if it is to be effective in the long run. Have you got the people you need? Are they equipped for the task? Are their roles clear? Do they have structures in place to oversee and manage the organisation effectively? Are you compliant with regulator’s requirements?

Ensuring that your organisation has an efficient governance and operational structure to achieve its objectives, with clear and comprehensible information for the governing body or board and executive team, is critical.

For existing charities and organisations, we can review and modernise constitutional and governance structures to take account of changing circumstances or new best practice.

Your organisation will need to fulfil its compliance and reporting obligations, e.g. to the Charity Commission or CIC Regulator. We work closely with the Commission on a regular basis, and also with other regulators relevant to Not for Profit organisations and social enterprises; including Companies House, HMRC, the Health & Safety Executive, and the Tenant Services Agency.

While not strictly a legal issue in itself, the management of risk in any charity, social enterprise or other Not for Profit organisation impacts directly on the trustees and management team. You need to operate in a way that is not only legally and financially sound, but which also takes proper care of your organisation’s obligations to its employees, beneficiaries and members of the public, for example in relation to health and safety and data protection.

Our approach is always to identify and consider risk as an integral part of our advice, so that you are equipped to manage it appropriately.
